"Excellent!"
We have just returned from an overnight stay at the caledonian hilton hotel in Edinburgh. First we were extremely impressed by the location of the hotel, it is right in the middle of all the great shops pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions, also princes street gardens is just over the road, ideal for having a picnic. We arrived a few hours earlier as the weather was good and wanted to make the most of it. We asked the concierge if we could park up in the car park around the back and he said it was ok. The car was left there for 24 hours and cost us ?9.50 which we thought was good considering the prices you can be charged thats if you find a space. The room was clean and modern but lacked A/c but they did provide a fan which helped as it was hot when we stayed there. The leisure centre was ok but the pool was small and filled up quickly especially before breakfast so go after if you can. Breakfast was really good and we didnt have to wait to be seated. We were waited on for coffee toast and juices but helped ourselves to cooked meals, cereals and fresh fruit. We would definately recommend the bar on a night as it wasnt too busy and was relaxing, with good service. Overall we thought the staff were very polite friendly and helpful and the view from our room was to die for. We definately recommend spending the extra money on a castle view, you wont be disappointed. |

"Quirky!"
When researching a hotel in a city I didnt know, I took some advise from tripadvisor. This hotel had mixed reviews from people but I went ahead with the booking to see for myself. I loved the quirkiness and the beauty of the building. My husband and I had a great stay, it is noisy but then I would expect that from any City hotel. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean although old which I felt was part of the quirkiness, I didnt expect it to look like the inside of a Best Western or Hojo's, its what I found appealing about the hotel. The bar is very busy and smoky if you are returning after 9pm and you may have to ask people to move to get to the door to get to the upstairs, but really people were very friendly and didnt mind. I would recommend this hotel to most of my friends, perhaps not to elderly relatives who would find the lack of elevator a strain and the noise an annoyance. Overall worth the money and very enjoyable. |

"Fantastic Location, Great Value"
Okay, so it WAS 56 stairs to the room (it would be more to the top floor) but even two completely out-of-shape Canadians could handle that. And no one has mentioned that elevators in buildings like this tend to be noisy, so the lack of noise could be considered a bonus (REALLY stretching there!). Location, location, location - smack dab in the middle of the Royal Mile, fifteen minutes to the castle (again, even for out-of-shape Canadians) and if you're too lazy to walk, buses and a cab stand right outside the door. Walking distance as well to the train station.
Our room was clean and comfortable, and, being the John Logie Baird room, decorated with television equipment. The bar downstairs (also the reception desk) is well-stocked and serves good food, including a breakfast that was comped with the room. Go ahead, try the haggis - I wasn't convinced it worked as part of a breakfast, but it really does.
We have no complaints about the room, the service, the location or the food. I think that may be why we've given this hotel our highest recommendation to our friends and will be going back to the Bank ourselves whenever we can get back to Scotland.
